Cellist Yari Bond is well known for her wonderful gift and ability to develop, support and
nurture talented young people, helping them to evolve into mature and creative
musicians. For the past 20 years she has taught at the Special Music School at
Kaufman Music Center in NYC and at Columbia University. She is the founder of
Concerts Con Brio, a concert series celebrating young artists, celebrating its 10th
anniversary season. Yari’s students are frequent competition winners, performing at
Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall and NPR’s From the Top, and have participated with
organizations such as the New York Youth Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Music
Program, and attended summer camps including Kinhaven, Greenwood, Bowdoin, Lyra,
Meadowmount and Perlman Music Program. Her students have gone on to attend The
Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, Northwestern University, Oberlin,
Harvard, Yale, Rice and Brown Universities.
A great lover and champion of chamber music, Yari has both performed and taught
chamber music her whole life as a musician. As a founding member and the artistic
director of the Carnegie Chamber Players and the Thurnauer Chamber Music Society,
she designed and implemented Chamber Music America Residency programs in Vermont
and New Jersey. She has performed with numerous ensembles in the New York area,
including the Orchestra of St. Luke’s. Yari performs as a soloist and chamber musician,
and has toured as an orchestral musician across the United States, Europe and Japan.
She has also performed at many festivals including Caramoor, Yale at Norfolk, Yellow
Barn, Lyra, Aspen Music Festival, Eastern Music Festival, Bach Aria Festival, New
England Bach Festival, and the Basically Bach Festival in Alaska. A champion of
contemporary music, she has premiered and recorded the music of many contemporary
composers. Yari holds Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from The Juilliard School
where she studied with Leonard Rose and Channing Robbins. Other teachers have
included David Wells and Robert Gardner. She has also participated in Master Classes
with Aldo Parisot, Janos Starker, Anner Bylsma and Timothy Eddy.
